The weather is warming up and in Chicago that indicates the return of this summer vacation season. While the big three of songs — Lollapalooza, Pitchfork and Riot Fest — capture a good deal of focus, there are various other festivals which highlight Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods, culture and arts, food, music and other associations.
The yearly city-sponsored festivals (gospel, jazz, blues, world music) occur in Millennium Park using the downtown skyline as a backdrop. And Taste of Chicago yields July 5 at Grant Park. Following is a look at the place to locate summertime fun from the city and suburbs.
Country music lovers are dusting off their very best boots and cowboy hats that this weekend in Windy City LakeShake Festival.
The provincial festival comprises performances from Lady Antebellum, Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn and a bevy of additional nation acts at Northerly Island.
Fans in the fest managed to cool down with boozy slushies while basking in sunlight and hot weather Saturday. Between collections, concertgoers appreciated playing oversize versions of interactive foosball and skee ball taking a twist on carnival rides. The three-day state music event features major stars on the main point and up-and-coming acts on the next phase.
There are plenty of notable acts from the lineup, such as the Cadillac Three, a scruffy country-rock trio which has assembled a rabid grassroots fan base by hefty traveling and opening slots for Tim McGraw. The sisters T.J. and John Osborne function as Brothers Osborne, a rootsy brother behave that provides a feel-good jam band vibe. McBryde is a talented songwriter whose material comprises the bittersweet number”A Small Dive Bar at Dahlonega” and the homage to her daddy”Bible and a .44.” She plays LakeShake on Saturday.
Together with the fourth season of Nation LakeShake bringing a little Nashville up north into the northeast town of Chicago, fans will be able to hear the yearlong functions from Music City as part of their’Next From Nashville’ lineup.
